Man gets bail of N200,000 for alleged theft of N20,000

The police in Ogun on Wednesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Nifemi Tunde, for allegedly breaking into a home to steal N20,000 cash.

Mr Tunde, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

The magistrate, A. F. Ojelade, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mrs Ojelade said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

The prosecutor, Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 13, about 1.30 p.m. at Serike area of Ota, Ogun State.

Mr Gbesi said the accused broke into the house of the complainant, Olabode Olayinka, to steal N20,000 cash.

He said the accused was caught by security guards and handed over to the police.

Gbesi added that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate adjourned the case until January 11 for further hearing.
