Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, has commended the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission (LAHASCOM) for its effort in laying a solid foundation for the commission.
Yusuf, who gave the commendation when the Commission, led by its Chairman, Chief Wale Mogaji, went on a study tour to the National Assembly, stated that the legislative institution has lived up to expectations of the people in terms of its wonderful performance within the short time it was established.
A statement by LAHASCOM Public Relations Officer, Omolola Alli-Balogun, stated that the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and all members of the House of Representatives from Lagos State were present at the event.
Mogaji also informed the gathering that efforts are on top gear towards securing full autonomy for the Lagos State House of Assembly and the restructuring of its administrative organ.
Delivering his address, Mogaji further stated that the main purpose of the tour is to discuss and share ideas with the members of the National Assembly Service Commission on key issues bordering on attainment of ‘‘full autonomy for the legislative arm of government, appointment and conditions of service of legislative aides and restructuring of the top hierarchy of the bureaucracy of the state assembly’’ which, according to him, would enable the legislative staff rise up to the highest echelon of their career like their counterparts in the ministries and other agencies of government.
While responding, the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Dr. Adamu Muhammed Fika assured the delegation of LAHASCOM that the National Assembly Service Commission would provide necessary support to ensure rapid development of the legislative institution and assembly service commissions in the federation.
According to him, the role of the legislative service commissions all over the world is to develop the legislative institution and ensure it performs its functions effectively.
