Alleged certificate forgery: Wike’s lawyer fails to show up

Nyesom Wike

Ferdinand Orbih, counsel to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, failed to appear in court on Wednesday in the alleged certificate forgery trial of his client.

The governor was dragged to court by one Elvis Chinda on accusations that he forged his birth certificate to gain admittance into Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) register as a governorship candidate.

The plaintiff wants the court to disqualify Mr Wike from contesting the governorship election in Rivers.

Holding brief for Mr Orbih on Wednesday, Emmanuel Ukala asked the court to adjourn the case since Orbih was before the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, for another case.

Counsel to INEC, Wale Ajayi, did not oppose the request for adjournment, neither did Chinda’s counsel, Achinike William-Wobodo.

The trial judge then adjourned the matter until February 13.
