The National Judicial Council (NJC) has ordered the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, to respond to a fresh petition against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The NJC, after its emergency meeting in Abuja on Monday, gave Mr Onnoghen seven days to respond to the allegations.
The council also instituted a Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee to consider responses to petitions against Onnoghen and the Acting CJN, Tanko Muhammad.
A final decision would be made to decide the fate of Onnoghen and Muhammad when the council reconvenes on Wednesday.
