Following a change in date for the general elections, the Federal Government has ordered the re-opening of all the nation’s borders which were closed due to the Presidential and National Assembly elections earlier scheduled for Saturday.
Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said that the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, gave the directive for the re-opening.
Mr Babandede said that Immigration officers would continue “their normal border control and patrol duties to ensure that all persons crossing Nigeria’s land, air and sea borders travelled with valid and genuine documents.’’
The Federal Government had earlier ordered that the borders be closed from midnight on Friday to Sunday to control movement in and out of the country during elections.
