11-year-old in court for allegedly throwing toddler into well

An 11-year-old boy has been remanded in a Special Correction Centre for boys in Oregun, Lagos, by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly throwing a toddler into a well.

The court gave the order on Monday pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The police charged the boy with murder.

Police prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 13, at 4.00 p.m., at No. 6, Afolabi close, Ojo, Lagos.

Mr Uwadione alleged that the defendant threw the one-year-old into a well while carrying him around on the said day, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 224 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned till March 6 for the DPP advice.
