Twitter users have slugged it out over the role of the Almajiri in the massive votes recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in northern states.
Almajiri is a term used to refer to homeless children who roam the streets in the northern part of the country begging for alms which they allegedly return to Islamic clerics.
In the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was hit with heavy defeats in Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Bauchi, Niger and Jigawa States.
However, in another twist to the issue, social media users have taken to Twitter to refer to all northerners who voted for Buhari as Almajiri, sparking outrage among the northerners.
