Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said that his son-in-law, Babalele Abdullahi, and lawyer are still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a tweet on Monday, Atiku, without specifically identifying, wrote that one of them has been in detention for three weeks while the other was recently taken in.
“My son in law and lawyer have been detained, one for 3 weeks and the other recently. They are paying the price for supporting me. I urge those now persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, and not just those who support them,” he wrote.
News of Atiku’s son-in-law been arrested by the EFCC broke on Saturday when the former vice president’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, said in a statemnet that the Maitama residence of Mr Abdullahi was invaded about 8:30am on Saturday.
Abdullahi is the finance director of Atiku’s group of companies.
