A Lagos High Lagos in Igbosere issued a warrant for the arrest of Nollywood actress and producer, Monalisa Chinda Coker, for tax evasion.
Presiding judge, Justice Adedayo Akintoye gave the order on January 21, following an application by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice accusing the screen diva of repeatedly failing to honor court summons.
The 44-year-old actress is facing a two-count charge of failing to file annual tax returns and pay income tax for her company, Monalisa Code Production, over a six-year period.
Prosecution counsel, Y. A. Pitan told the Igbosre High Court that Monalisa Chinda has not appeared in court since the charges were filed against her in 2017.
“The defendant has been served with hearing notice. The proof of service is in the court’s file,” Pitan said while explaining his point.
The bench warrant to arrest the actress extends till April, having failed to appear in court since the charge was filed.
