Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Owolabi Adewale, for allegedly killing his 99-year-old aunt, Ebunola Aroboto.
Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the incident occurred on Monday.
Mr Owolabi was said to have hacked his aunt down with a machete at Maraisa Lane Igan road Ago-Iwoye, with claims that she was responsible for his frequent loss at the lottery house.
“His arrest followed a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ago-Iwoye Division Ade Adedoyin, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) that a middle aged man has butchered his aunty Ebunola Aroboto to death at Maraisa Lane Igan road Ago-Iwoye.
“On receiving the distress call, the DPO quickly led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested and the cutlass which he used to wreak the havoc recovered.
“The suspect admitted killing the old woman with machete claiming that he has an inclination that the woman was responsible for most of his spiritual problems.
“He stated he was a regular player of Baba Ijebu lotto and that whenever he was sure of winning, the deceased who was his father elder sister, will use her supernatural power to change the winning number,” Oyeyemi said.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at Ijebu-Ode general hospital mortuary for post mortem examination.
The spokesman also said the state police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) State Criminal investigation and intelligence Department (SCIID), Wale Abass, to take over the case “and see to diligent prosecution of the suspect.”
