Temitope Olatoye Sugar Oyo lawmaker shot dead

The police in Oyo have arrested four additional suspects over the murder of an Oyo lawmaker, Temitope Olatoye.

Mr Olatoye, popularly known as sugar, was the House of Representatives member for Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency.

Olatoye was killed by gunmen during the governorship and State House of Assembly elections last Saturday.

Force spokesman, Frank Mba, confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Thursday.

He said efforts were still on to apprehend others involved in the crime.

Those arrested were Rafiu Adebayo, 68; Taofeek Adebayo a.k.a Ejo, 39; Rasheed Oladele, 66; and Mutiu Oguntola, 28.

Chief whip of the state House of Assembly, Wasiu Akinmoyede, is also in police custody as a suspect.

Mba explained that one of the suspects, Oguntola, sustained bullet injuries in the shoulder blade and groin while trying to evade arrest and was subsequently taken to an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment.

He said: “I can confirm that we are making steady progress in our investigation into the murder of Olatoye. We have five suspects in custody and the operation to arrest other suspects involved in the heinous crime is ongoing.

“The suspects are still in the custody of the Oyo State Police Command where they are helping the police to track down other accomplices.”

Mba added that the suspects may be transferred to Abuja next week.
