Former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniels, is set to lead his supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 24 hours after announcing his resignation from the opposition.
Mr Daniels had in a letter dated March 14, 2019 written to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Uche Secondus, that he was quitting the party and partisan politics as well.
However, in a dramatic turn on Sunday, the 62-year-old was beseiged by his supporters and loyalists who conveyed at his Asoludero residence in Sagamu to lead them to the ruling party.
Mr Daniels had called the meeting to address them on his decision to quit partisan politics.
But, having worked to see Dapo Abiodun of the APC elected as Ogun governor, Daniels’ supporters urged him to lead them to the APC.
The former governor left without a definite answer for his supporters.
However, when asked by journalists about what had played out, he said: “Basically, they (supporters) said I could resign from PDP. They said I must lead them to APC. And they also said I cannot retire from politics that is the summary of what I heard. Now we have to take a look at it.”
In a follow-up question of his next move, Daniels said: “What else can I say? My people have spoken.”
