The MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) held at the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles on Sunday lived up to expectation in drama and controversy. The organisers did not make Miley Cyrus host for nothing. They wanted a storm, and that was what she created from the red carpet to the stage and then the back stage.
Miley Cyrus exposed in 11 jaw-dropping outfits
We knew when MTV announced that Miley Cyrus will be the host of the VMA with no rules or restrictions that we were in for a crazy ride. The ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer pulled all the stops and gave everyone a night to remember.
The 22-year-old wore a total of 11 risqué outfits that were questionable on all counts for the night.
In major news, our former child star suffered a nip slip and even asked the audience “are my tits out?” She got the obvious answer “yes they are”.
If Miley did indeed kill Hannah Montana in 2013, she finally buried her last night.
Friends and foes
Many thought there was bad blood between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Well, rest your butt because the real feud is going on between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus.
In a surprise performance, the ‘Anaconda’ singer and Taylor swift opened the awards ceremony singing together and even sharing a hug. On the other hand, when Nicki Minaj accepted the award for Best Hip-hop Video, she addressed Miley as the bitch who talked trash about her to the press. Miley responded “Hey, we’re all in this industry, we all do interviews, and we all know how they manipulate s**t. Nicki, congratulations.”
Talk about grown up
The teary eyes
It was an emotional night for many but only Justin Bieber showed us his feelings. The singer broke down in tears during his performance at the VMA. You bet he got a loud applause for that. He also debuted his video for ‘What Do You Mean’.
The crazy outfits
While we adore so many perfections for the night, we can’t help but notice that some chose to give us the stink eye with their horrible outfits. Rita Ora wore a voluminous feathered gown. Not surprising since she is no stranger to racy outfits.
Serayah definitely broke our hearts; the Empire star didn’t please anyone in her tattered white Herve Leger frock.
Jeremy Scott had us screaming ugly with his over the top coloured ensemble that looked like the screen of an old colour TV.
The best dressed
Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj, Chrissy Teigen, Vanessa Hudgens and Kourtney Kardashian wowed us at the VMA.
Kanye West all grown up
Looks like Kanye West is all grown up. We all remember when he interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMA. The rapper has turned a new leaf. West apologised to Taylor when he came up to accept the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award presented by the former country musician. In return Taylor revealed she is a big Kanye West fan.
The rapper also made a big announcement during his acceptance speech about his interest in running for US presidency in 2020.
Nothing is impossible, after all Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for governor.
True winners
While some had bad blood and others were over emotional, some actually enjoyed the night without a clause. Demi Lovato performed for the first time at the MTV VMA. The ‘Cool for the Summer’ singer looked hot during her performance as well. Way to go Demi.
Nick Jonas didn’t just perform at the VMA, the hunky singer debut the video of his latest single ‘Levels’ and the crowd roared in approval.
