The police in Ogun have arrested a 25-year old man, Ajibade Olumuyiwa, for allegedly killing Olakitan Balogun whom he said was his wife’s secret lover.
Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known in a release on Wednesday, said the suspect was arrested after a distress call was placed to the divisional police officer (DPO), Ajuwon division, by residents of Doland Estate.
Oyeyemi said the DPO, Afolabi Kazeem, led detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.
The spokesperson added that the suspect while being interrogated said he came to his house at midnight on that fateful day he was arrested and met Balogun with his wife.
The suspect was said to have confessed that he got angry and hit the man’s head on the wall which led to his death.
Olumuyiwa’s wife, Titilayo Olayiwola, was said to have denied having sexual relationship with the deceased.
She said the suspect had abandoned her in the house for the past eight months with an instruction to the gateman to keep an eye on her for any secret lover.
Titilayo said the victim was a cobbler in the area whose girlfriend came looking for him and since he was not living alone, he decided to bring the girl to a room in the house due to his closeness to the family.
“But as soon as the gateman saw him, he alerted the husband who rushed to the house and descended heavily on the deceased without listening to any explanation from her and the girlfriend to the victim,” she said.
The corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Ogun police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for ‘discreet’ investigation and prosecution of the case.
