A 56-year-old businessman, Josephat Nwobodo, was on Thursday arraigned in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for allegedly sprinkling “juju (magical) water” in a hotel.
Mr Nwobodo pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal trespass, criminal intimidation and unlawful “juju” filed against him by the police.
Prosecutor Edwin Ochayi told the court that one Moses Ugwu of Kpegi Guest Inn, Kurudu, Abuja had reported the incident at the Karu Police Area Command, Abuja, on March 26, 2018.
The complainant, according to Mr Ochayi, alleged that Nwobodo entered into the aforementioned address and sprayed “juju” water around the hotel and also threatened to kill him.
Ochayi added that the defendant said during investigation that he sprayed water round the hotel to prevent dust before sweeping.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348, 397 and 215 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Sani Mohammed, admitted Nwobodo to bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 25, for hearing.
