Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined the call against criticising the Igbo after five Nigerians were arrested in United Arab Emirate (UAE) for robbing a bureau de change.
The suspects, who are from the Igbo tribe, reportedly fled with cash of different currency worth Dh2.3 million (N226,182,000).
The five suspects who were on visitor’s visas to Dubai were Chimuanya Ozoh, Benjamin Ajah, Kingsley Ngoka, Tochukwu Alisi and Chile Ndunagu.
According to the police, the men barged into the exchange and smashed the glass barrier between the customers and the staff, stole the money in multiple currencies and fled.
Since the report became public, Nigerians have been divided across ethnic lines as some have said that the Igbo should be blamed for bringing shame on the nation.
Joining the conversation, Fani-Kayode said on Wednesday: “I pity those rejoicing at the fact that the boys who were caught robbing a BureauDeChange in Dubai were Igbo.They fail to appreciate the fact that the rest of the world,including the Arabs,rightly view them as Nigerians and not Igbo and their behaviour is a reflection of us all.”
