Nigerian filmmaker, Ema Edosio, has revealed that her movie, Kasala!, was rejected in Nigeria.
The cinematographer made this known via an Instagram post on Friday.
“I have been absent from social media after the release of
Kasala! Doing a lot of soul searching and reflecting.
“Releasing my film Kasala! brought some of the most exciting experiences,
awards, friendship and disappointments. I have learnt so many lessons and I
would like to share my experience with fellow filmmakers who want to step out
to create works that they are passionate about.
“I would be doing a series of posts on how I came up with the idea of Kasala! How
my film was rejected in Nigeria. Getting into 30 international film festivals
and counting. How my film crashed in the Nigerian cinemas,” she wrote in parts.
Ema Edosio released Kasala! In October 2018 to critical acclaim, critics and moviegoers hailing the movie for its originality and acting.
The movie stars Gabriel Afolayan, Jide Kosoko, Sambasa Nzeribe, Judith Audu Fought and Chimezie Imo among others.
