Disney pledges $5 million to rebuild Notre-Dame

American entertainment conglomerate, Disney, has announced that it would be donating $5 million to support the rebuilding of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame after the fire incident on Monday evening.

Disney earned millions in profits for its 1996 animated blockbuster The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

“The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbors in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece,” Disney Chief Executive, Bob Iger, said on Wednesday.

The film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, sold an estimated $325 million in tickets worldwide.

A couple of other American firms have also made donations. Apple Chief Executive, Tim Cook, announced that the tech giant would give an unspecified amount.

Co-founder of investment fund, KKR, Henry Kravis, and his wife Marie-Josée Kravis, said they would give $10 million to the project.

University of Notre Dame in Indiana, US also pledged $100,000.

Several French billionaires and companies have pledged over $450 million to rebuild the historic site.

Many of the Cathedral’s treasures were saved – twin bell towers, Crown of Thrones which Jesus wore during his passion, the tunic believed to have been worn by the 13th-century king of France, St. Louis, among others.
