National Working Committee (NWC) of All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, for anti-party activities.
The NWC had met on March 1 and agreed to issue Akeredolu a query over anti-party activities in the build-up to 2019 general elections.
A member of the party’s NWC told Punchng.com on Friday that the governor had been suspended.
Akeredolu had been lined up for suspension after a similar fate befell Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha, who also were involved in anti-party activities.
The source who did not want to be named said the national vice chairman from the South West was asked to serve Akeredolu the query to avoid a situation where the governor denies receiving the query.
“After the election, we want to build and not to destroy the house. But we want to do the needful. Since we suspended the Imo and Ogun states governors, we want to treat them the same way.
“We have suspended them but they need to defend themselves, It is like a query and a suspension. They have to advance reasons why they did what they did,” the source said.
However, Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, when contacted, said the issue was a party affair but that “contrary to claims that he (Akeredolu) was suspended for not responding to the query sent him, it is not true.”
Mr Olowolabi said the governor never received a query from the party.
