Aaron Samuel snatches derby point for CSKA Moscow

Super Eagles forward, Aaron Samuel, was the hero for CSKA Moscow as he scored the equaliser to deny Lokomotiv Moscow all three points in the Moscow Derby played on Saturday.

Samuel, 21, who joined the Red Blues on loan from Chinese side, Guangzhou R&F, in January, scored in the 84th minute as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.

Surprisingly, the left-footed striker was given the nod to start in attack after failing to tie down a regular place in Leonid Slutsky’s squad since his arrival in the winter.

Samuel grabbed the opportunity with both arms as he produced a beautiful solo strike – his first in Russian football to keep CSKA top of the log with 47 points.

Former Tottenham defender, Vedran Corluka, had earlier given the home team a precious lead 22 minutes into the game before Samuel stunned the crowd with a late equalizer.

Compatriot Ahmed Musa was also in action for the Army club, but failed to add to his 11 goals this season.

Both players were part of the Eagles squad that crashed to Egypt thus missing out on a second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Samuel was eventually ruled out of the two-legged encounter after sustaining an injury in camp.
