Cleaners have discovered a foetus in the toilet of a passenger airplane in South Africa.
The abandoned remains were found around 6:15 am Friday on the domestic FlySafair airline.
The flight was immediately aborted and passengers rescheduled for another.
Police said they have launched investigation on the incident.
The cleaning staff discovered the foetus as passengers boarded for an early morning flight from the coastal city of Durban to Johannesburg.
A FlySafair executive, Kirby Gordon, said in a statement: “We will be doing everything within our power to aid authorities in the necessary investigations and thank our loyal customers for their patience with the resultant delay.”
The statement said all passengers have been booked on alternate flights at the airport.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman, Thembeka Mbele, said they were treating the case as a ‘concealment of birth’.
South African law bans the concealment of a birth.
