Acting Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday said the inspector-general of police Usman Baba did not close satellite units of the intelligence response team and special tactical squads in the country.
Reports had alleged that the IGP ordered the closure of the units and that all serving officers in the units should report to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing.
However, Adejobi told PUNCH that the reports are “untrue”.
“The IGP didn’t shut IRT and tactical squads in the country,” he added.
The reports followed the arrest of Abba Kyari, the former head of the police intelligence response team, over alleged drug deal.
Kyari is currently in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Last August, the IGP approved the posting of Tunji Disu, a deputy commissioner of police, as the new head of the police IRT.
