The family of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, has held the post-funeral prayers for him in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
They were joined on Monday by Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, who led other top government functionaries and mourners to attend the prayers.
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, said: “The Late Kyari’s royal family decided to combine prayers for third and seventh days so that mourners do not have to return in view of the need for social distancing.”
“The Shehu of Bama, His Highness, Kyari Ibn Umar Elkanemi, led the family in taking the decision,” the statement added.
The prayers took place at the residence of the deceased’s younger brother, Baba-Shehu Zannah Arjinoma, who is the district head of Banki town in Bama Local Government Area.
Chief Imam of Borno, Zannah Laisu, led in the prayers.
Kyari died on Friday of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos. He was buried at the Gudu Cemetry in Abuja on Saturday.
