Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia on Tuesday unveiled former FC IfeanyiUbah coach, Everton Rafael, as its new technical adviser.
Club Chairman, Emeka Inyama, presented the Brazilian to sports journalists, members of the club’s supporters club and a cross-section of the club’s fans at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
He disclosed that the club management signed a two-year contract with Everton, for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons.
Inyama said the new technical adviser had the mandate to reposition Abia Warriors and make it one of the top-ranking clubs in the country.
He added that the club management specifically expect the new coach to nurture the club to be among the best three in the country.
“Rafael has the task of making Abia Warriors become one of those in the top three positions and also get the club to win one of the tickets to play on the continent,” Inyama said.
After signing the contract papers, Everton said he was happy to be back in Nigeria after he resigned from FC IfeanyiUbah on March 28.
He said he has faith in God helping him to deliver on the mandate given to him.
“I believe strongly in God and I am confident that with the support of the players and management we will succeed.
“All hands must be on deck for us to succeed,” the Brazilian said, adding that he had confidence in the ability of the club’s players to excel.
Everton succeeds Abdullahi Biffo who led the club to a 12th-place finish at the end of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
