Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa has congratulated investment banker in the diaspora Adebayo Ogunlesi on joining the club of African billionaires.
Last week, BlackRock, the biggest asset management company in the world announced it was buying Mr Ogunlesi’s firm Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in a $12.5 billion deal.
As part of the deal, Blackrock is to pay $3 billion in cash and offer Ogunlesi and five other co-founders of GIP 12 million shares in Blackrock.
The deal placed Ogunlesi among the first 20 billionaires in Africa, with an estimated $2.3 billion in net worth.

In a congratulatory message on Tuesday signed by the director of media and public relations of NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa described Ogunlesi as a pride to Nigeria and Africa with his latest entrepreneurial exploits.
Dabiri-Erewa said Ogunlesi, who had at different times been celebrated by the commission, symbolises progressive achievements through hard work and determination, thus enhancing a global positive image for Nigeria and Africa.
