Nigerians have rallied to raise over N20 million for a man named Abiba Oyetunji following an emotional appeal on actress Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Talk to B.
During Wednesday’s episode, Abiba shared his harrowing journey with chronic kidney disease (CKD). “I am a CKD patient,” he revealed, recounting the moment he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
Struggling to understand his fate, Abiba questioned, “Me, kidney? I don’t eat outside, I don’t smoke, so what…”
The ailment, compounded by his sickle cell condition, has left him unable to urinate naturally. “I urinate through dialysis,” he explained, showing a tube near his shoulder.
Abiba also recounted the severe financial and personal losses he endured following his diagnosis. “Armed robbers came to the house… packed all our phones and everything,” he said.
His ordeal continued with the loss of his home, vehicles, and savings. “My house gone. First car gone, second car gone, third car gone, all the savings gone,” he narrated.
In an emotional recount, Abiba spoke of his wife, who had initially supported him but eventually left due to external pressures. “She left when I needed her most,” he said in tears. He also shared the pain of informing his mother about his condition and seeking financial help from his siblings.
When asked about the solution to his ailment, Abiba stated, “The final solution is the kidney transplant.”
Biola then called on Nigerians to help raise the funds needed for the transplant, moving beyond the temporary relief of dialysis.
The response was overwhelming. In less than 24 hours, they raised N8 million. The amount quickly grew to N10 million, then N15 million, and finally surpassed N20 million. The transplant will cost over N22 million.
Biola expressed profound gratitude to Nigerians for their generosity while beseeching them to continue donating.
On Wednesday, Abiba Oyetunji shared a video on his Instagram page, continuing to solicit help.
