Yoruba actress and singer Seyi Ariyo has cried out over a curse allegedly laid on her by Egungun masqueraders.
In a video uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday, the actress said the traditional worshippers are angry with her because of a scene in her film Asiri Pepe of a masquerade having sex.
According to her, someone posted the scene on Facebook, after which the masqueraders got angry and laid a curse that she will die in seven days.
Calling on Nigerians to help beg the aggrieved masqueraders, the actress said she does not disrespect traditional religion.
“I would never look down on our heritage and rich culture. The movie Asiri Pepe was produced to enlighten people on religious realities beyond the altar and in fact, the impact of looking down on the African religion.
“When Asiri Pepe finally hits the screen you’d see for yourself that it is not a movie that was produced to disregard the African Heritage,” she wrote in the caption section of her post.
Asiri Pepe stars Seyi Ariyo, Saidi Balogun, Odunlade Adekola, Wunmi Toriola, Opeyemi Aiyeola and Afeez Eniola among others.
Directed by Okiki Afolayan, it was written and directed by Seyi Ariyo.
Some of the actress’ colleagues like Ibrahim Chatta, Jaiye Kuti, Biodun Okeowo, Regina Chukwu and Binta Ayo Mogaji have prayed that nothing will happen to her.
Seyi Ariyo performs as a musician with the name Shebaby.
