High-profile personalities including businesspeople and politicians attended the 80th birthday celebration of Nigeria’s first female minister of industry Nike Akande on Tuesday night at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
Among the attendees were the founder of Premier Lotto Ltd also known as Baba Ijebu, Sir Kessington Adebutu; Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Oniru of Iru land Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal and former governor of Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Also present was the first lady Oluremi Tinubu represented by Nana Shettima, Bola Shagaya, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa and Abah Folawiyo.
Others present were the wife of Lagos State governor Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, widow of former Oyo State governor Florence Ajimobi, Rev Mother Esther Ajayi, Bisi Olatilo, Dele Momodu and Pastor Idowu Iluyomade and wife Siju Iluyomade.
The celebrant, who is also the Iyalaje and Iyalode of Ibadan, was dressed elegantly for the occasion as was befitting of one who would be the centre of attention.
Akande was flanked by her husband Adebayo Akande, a business magnate, their children and grandchildren, friends, associates and well-wishers.
The economist, accountant and industrialist, who served as the president of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and is an honorary life vice-president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, showed her moves on the dance floor while being serenaded by Highlife musician Flavour.
Pastor Tunde Bakare, who will celebrate his 70th birthday next month, prayed for the celebrant in Yoruba language.
Akande was the second female president of the LCCI.
On November 1, 2014, she celebrated her 70th birthday. The event was held at the Eko Hotels and Suites with notable business moguls and politicians in attendance including former governor of Lagos State Babatunde Fashola and Amosun.
