Adeleke hosts D’Tigress star Adenike Olawuyi after Afrobasket win

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday evening received a member of the victorious D’Tigress Adenike Olawuyi in his office.

D’Tigress recently defeated Senegal to win the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title in Kigali, Rwanda.

It was the fourth consecutive Afrobasket title for D’Tigress despite head coach Rena Wakama being appointed weeks before the start of the tournament.

Olawuyi, a native of Osogbo, Osun State capital, was dressed in the Nigerian colour and a pair of jean trousers to meet the governor.

Adeleke shared photos of his meeting with her and her coach Taiwo Eleniyan on Instagram on Friday, noting that he stressed his administration’s commitment to sports development.

“I received Osun State-born basketballer, Olawuyi Adenike, who is also a member of the Nigerian Basketball Team, yesterday evening.

“I congratulated her on the Gold medal they won at the just concluded Afrobasket ‘Rwanda 2023’ and restated our administration’s commitment to sports development,” said the governor.

Olawuyi also shared photos of the meeting on Instagram, thanking the governor for having them.

She said, “It was an honor to meet with His Excellency Ademola Adeleke the governor of Osun State @aadeleke_01, thank you sir for hosting me and my coach @taiwoeleniyan1 and special thanks to the SSG for making this possible.” Olawuyi tagged Adeleke’s famous nephew Davido to her post.

Olawuyi plays her basketball professionally for PEAC-Pécs, the first-class women’s basketball team of Pécs, Hungary.

The 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket was her first appearance for the national team at the competition.

Speaking on that, she said in an Instagram post after the team’s triumph that she was proud of herself.

The reception from Adeleke comes after Olawuyi and her teammates were received by first lady Remi Tinubu in Aso Rock, Abuja.
