Advertising expert Tolu Ogunkoya has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 60.
Ogunkoya, the regional chief executive officer of Media Reach OMD, died on Wednesday.
Announcing his exit in an Instagram post on Thursday, the organisation said, “With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our beloved Regional CEO. Mr. Tolulope Ogunkoya.
“The time you spent with us had a great impact on us all, and we wish you had stayed longer.
“We submit to the will of the Almighty God & take solace in the indelible footprints you left behind. We’ll miss you. Our Visionary Leader – Rest on peacefully.”
At a point, he operated as the regional managing director of Omnicom Media Group WeCa with offices in Lagos, Accra and Cameroon and partner offices in three other locations across West and Central Africa.
Ogunkoya graduated with a bachelor of science degree in political science from the University of Ilorin in 1988. He then pursued an advertising career which kicked off at Insight Grey followed by SO&U Saatchi & Saatchi.
In the last 27 years, he was on several executive education programmes at Ashridge in the United Kingdom where he had his post graduate studies in general management.
He was the president of MIPAN (Media Independents Practitioners Association of Nigeria), the body that has all leading media agencies operating in Nigeria registered in its fold. Ogunkoya was inducted as a fellow registered practitioner in advertising (frpa) by APCON in recognition of his contributions to the advertising industry. He was on the APCON council before his death.
He was also a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria.
