One week after crashing out of the race for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped five spots in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday.
The three-time African champions have now crashed to the 67th in the world and 14th in the continent.
Nigeria were ranked 11th and 62nd in Africa and world in the month of February but the nation’s poor outing in the AFCON qualification double header against the Pharaohs of Egypt may have contributed to the further slid down the ladder.
Algeria climbed four spots to place 33 to lead the continent while African champions, Côte d’Ivoire, maintain the second spot ahead of Ghana, Senegal, Egypt climbing nine positions to 34.
Cape Verde, Tunisia, DR Congo, Guinea, Congo, Cameroon and Morocco occupy the 6th to 12th positions respectively while Mali and Nigeria are rated 13th and 14th on the continent.
Guinea Bissau are the best movers in the month ranking after a huge climb of 45 places.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina jumped to the number one spot in the world after former leaders, Belgium, dropped to the second position.
Chile occupied the third spot while Colombia, Germany, Spain, Brazil and Portugal are placed fourth to eighth in that order.
Uruguay and England completed the top 10 ranking in the world. The next FIFA ranking is expected to come out on May 05, 2016.
