Nigeria striker and 2013 AFCON winner Brown Ideye has joined nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba FC on a deal that runs until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The Aba giants’ sporting director and ex-international Ifeanyi Ekwueme confirmed the signing to PUNCH on Tuesday, saying, ““Yes, the talks have been going on for a while and we completed it yesterday (Monday).”
Ideye, 36, who has been without a club since leaving Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, now returns to Nigeria’s top flight 17 years after departing Ocean Boys in 2006.
His move to Enyimba follows similar returns by former international teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, currently playing for Kano Pillars. Ideye nearly signed with Rivers United in October, but the deal fell through. His addition comes at a crucial time for Enyimba, who face two key matches in five days: a rescheduled NPFL clash against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday and a CAF Confederation Cup group-stage tie against Black Bulls in Maputo, Mozambique.
