President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) group, Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s elder statesman, Edwin Clark.
In a statement on Saturday in Abuja, Adesina conveyed his condolences and described Clark as a fearless advocate for justice and equity.
He praised Clark as an iconic leader whose contributions to national discourse, resource control and environmental justice shaped Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.
“Chief Edwin Clark was a moral compass and a fearless voice of conscience in national discourse, especially for social equity and justice.
“His unwavering commitment to true federalism, national unity, regional progress and development will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians,” he said.
Adesina recalled his personal interactions with Clark during his tenure as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, noting how the late statesman fondly referred to him as “my son.”
He extended his condolences to the Clark family, the people of the Niger Delta, and Nigeria at large.
“May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and a vocal advocate for the Niger Delta, passed away at the age of 97.
His legacy of advocacy and leadership continues to inspire many, particularly in the Niger Delta and beyond.
