The African Union and the International Committee of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced that a music business roundtable will precede the grand ceremony scheduled for November 6.
With the theme “Economic Power of Music for a New Africa”, the roundtable will be a platform for artistes and stakeholders to interrogate and strategise on the structure of the music industry in Africa.
It is also intended to discuss the economic potential inherent in the music business.
The Africa Music Business Roundtable is slated to hold on Friday November 4 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
Business networking and interaction among music professionals, music executives, government officials and other stakeholders in the music, media and financial sectors all over the world will be encouraged.
The brainstorming sessions, which have been divided into parts, will give a deep insight into the unexplored and ill exploited economic values of Africa music.
Participants will be drawn from various economic strata of the society. They will include musicians, musicologists, businessmen, bankers, investors and big players in the Africa music industry.
Some of the panellists are Karima Damir (Morocco), Nde Ndifonka (Cameroon), Tony Okoroji (Nigeria), Robert Ekukole (Cameroon), Yeni Kuti (Nigeria), Ricki Stein (U.K) and Mike Strand (Kenya).
Holding on the same day is the Africa Music Village at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Lagos.
The music village will feature live performances from Femi Kuti and 30 other African superstars and AFRIMA 2016 nominees like Kiss Daniel, Filly Pupa, Victoria Kimani, Diamond Platnumz, VVIP and Brim.
Artistes and participants at this year’s AFRIMA would also have a taste of the new Lagos in a guided tour of Eko Atlantic City, popularly called the 8th Wonder of the World.
The AFRIMA grand awards ceremony will be broadcast to 84 countries on 109 television stations around the world on November 4.
