Large crowds on Tuesday gathered at the headquarters of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja to register for their National Identification Number (NIN).
This follows the extension of the NIN registration by three weeks after dozens of people flocked the commission’s offices in some parts of the country flouting COVID-19 protocols.
Many of those who came out for NIN registration at the Abuja NIMC office were without face masks and disregarded social distancing rule.
Barring any changes, telecommunications companies will on January 19 block SIM cards without the NIN, according to directives from the Nigerian Communication Commission.
