Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the indefinite suspension of actress Halima Abubakar following allegations that she was responsible for spreading slanderous information about other actors online.
AGN announced the suspension in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday, revealing that an extensive internal investigation led to this decision.
According to the AGN, the investigation found that Halima was the source of defamatory content about its members, associates and patrons.
This included accusations of extramarital affairs involving high-profile individuals in society.
During the suspension, the actress is barred from participating in any film or AGN-related activities.
The guild emphasised that she would face a disciplinary panel to determine further consequences.
The AGN’s statement partly read, “Following a thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel, which was tasked with looking into activities of some blogs and bloggers since 2022, it was concluded that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the defamatory information targeting our members, associates, and patrons.”
The statement also noted that several female members of the AGN are still under investigation following the recent release of names linked to controversial reports involving high-ranking individuals in Nigerian society.
The guild concluded by commending the investigative panel for its professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to monitoring Halima’s compliance with the suspension order.
Violations of the terms of her suspension could lead to further disciplinary action, the statement added.
