The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced it will hold a general meeting to discuss the opposition raised by some of its members to the appointment of Senator Elisha Abbo as a patron of the guild.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the guild, Monalisa Chinda Coker, posted on Instagram on Thursday.
“This is a special appeal to our teeming members, fans and associates that the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, is mindful of the feelings of some members with regards to the choice of Senator Ishaku Abbo as National Patron, North East Zone of AGN.
“In view of this, the National President, Mr Emeka Rollas, has called for a general meeting of stakeholders on Monday 23/03/2020…,” the statement read.
According to the statement, a special committee has been set up to look into the concerns raised by the members regarding the issue.
The statement, however, warned members to desist from making comments on social media and discuss them at the meeting instead.
Actresses, Hilda Dokubo and Kate Henshaw, had expressed their disapproval of the appointment of Abbo on Monday.
They argued that his assault on a woman in an adult toy shop in Abuja in July 2019 made him an unsuitable choice.
After their concerns were apparently dismissed by AGN President, Emeka Rollas, in an interview on Wednesday, fellow actresses, Joke Silva, Chiege Alisigwe and Dakore Egbuson, took to social media to join the call against Abbo’s appointment.
