Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, was injured in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday night, ruling him out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.
The Argentine, 29, was reported to be in a taxi on his way to the airport hours after watching singer, Maluma, perform.
“The driver did not see the curve and skidded,” Aguero told Argentine radio station Radio Metro. “When we were skidding we hit a post.
“I’ve broken a rib, now I’m resting. It hurts a lot but I’ll soon be discharged.”
City said he “was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries”.
Aguero is expected back in Manchester on Friday and will be examined by City’s medical team.
Police in Amsterdam confirmed to the BBC that two people were in a taxi which crashed in the De Boelelaan area of the city.
Earlier in the evening, the Argentina forward posted a photo of himself and Maluma on Instagram with the message, “thanks for the invitation”.
Aguero’s injury is the second serious setback suffered by Manchester City in two days after Benjamin Mendy was potentially ruled out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury.
City play title their rivals Chelsea in Saturday’s late game and after losing both Premier League matches last season against Antonio Conte’s side, Pep Guardiola’s hopes of recording a first win over the champions since becoming manager has suffered another sizeable blow as Aguero is ruled out.
