Few days after Isaac Success joined Barclays Premier League side, Watford, from Granada for a club-record fee of £12.5m, another Nigerian is on the verge of a record breaking deal.
Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa, will become the second Nigerian to move to England for a club-record fee if he finalises his deal with league champions, Leicester City.
The CSKA Moscow star, who scored 54 goals in 168 games in Russia, is set to sign for the Foxes at £16.6m.
Musa, 23, was close to joining Claudio Ranieri’s side in January but was blocked by CSKA President, Yevgeny Giner, who claimed, “there will be bigger clubs coming in for him” in the summer.
The Nigerian would have been crowned English Champions had he joined then but instead, preferred to stick with the Militarians who picked up their 13th Russian league title.
Now his agent, Tony Harris, claims his client turned down a move to West Ham, Everton and Southampton in favour of a move to the King’s Power Stadium.
“Everything has been finalised and Musa will be in England for his medical on Wednesday,” Harris told BBC Sport on Monday.
CSKA coach, Leonid Slutsky, admitted the Nigerian, who can play as winger or striker, is on his way out of the club.
“He’ll be leaving on Tuesday,” Slutsky told the Russian media. “And if you look at the way things are done over there you’ll see he is a player just made for English football.”
Musa made his international debut against Madagascar in September 2010 and has scored 11 times in 58 appearances for the Super Eagles.
