Police in Lagos have arraigned an AIICO Insurance manager, Francis Aniamalu, before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding customers of N9.4 million.
Mr Aniamalu, on Friday, denied charges of conspiracy, forgery, fraud and obtaining under false pretence.
The alleged offence was committed between 2016 and 2018 at Iyana-Isolo area of Lagos.
Police prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, alleged that the defendant tricked various customers by forging receipts of AIICO Insurance and other documents.
“The defendant was able to defraud various customers of N9.4 million by forging various receipts for payment made to the company and converted the funds to his own personal use,” Uwadione said.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 287, 314, 363 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief magistrate Adeola Adedayo granted the defendant bail of N3 million with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned until May 28 for continuation of hearing.
