The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has not arrested or detained businesswoman and philanthropist Aisha Achimugu, despite reports circulating on social media, her media aide, David Abakpa, has said.
Reacting to the claims published by two blogs, Abakpa dismissed them as “fake news,” attributing the reports to detractors attempting to tarnish Achimugu’s reputation.
He urged the public to disregard the allegations, stating that Achimugu is currently out of the country and could not have been arrested.
“The claim that the EFCC has arrested Aisha Achimugu is completely false and a desperate attempt by malicious individuals to damage her hard-earned reputation,” the statement read in part.
“Anyone can confirm from the Commission that she was neither arrested nor detained.”
Abakpa further described the reports as a calculated attempt to defame Achimugu and undermine her company, Felak Concept Group.
“This blatant lie is an act of intentional defamation designed to drag Dr Achimugu’s name through the mud. It has caused unnecessary distress to her associates, family, and well-wishers. We will not allow her reputation to be smeared by falsehoods.”
He added that Achimugu, a respected entrepreneur known for creating job opportunities for Nigerian youths, is internationally recognised for her legitimate business dealings.
On Thursday, reports began circulating online alleging that Achimugu had been arrested by the EFCC.
However, her media aide insists these claims are completely unfounded.
