First Lady Aisha Buhari has called for a ‘total lockdown’ of activities in the country to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Mrs Buhari said on Twitter on Monday that the action of the state governors to shut down schools was commendable but that it was not enough.
“It is commendable that state governors have closed down schools,” she said, “however, this could be counterproductive if parents are still going to work.
“We should not isolate students and expose their parents. Let us remember that they will meet at home. #TotalLockDown #StayAtHome.”
The first lady announced last week that her office had been shut down after her daughter returned from the UK, a country with high incidence of the deadly virus.
Her call for national lockdown followed the announcement by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that his son had tested positive for the virus.
