Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has denied condemning the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Mrs Buhari made the denial in a statement by her media aide, Suleiman Haruna.
She was reacting to a social media post that claimed she does not support her husband’s suspension of Onnoghen.
“It is important to inform Nigerians that wife of the President has not made any public statements on the matter and therefore the commentary is untrue and fake.
“This is highly condemnable and we therefore advise the purveyors of such news to recant and desist henceforth,” Mr Haruna’s statement reads.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Friday suspended Onnoghen citing a recommendation by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over false asset declaration.
The suspension has been widely criticised by the European Union, United States of America, United Kingdom and opposition politicians.
Speaking through wife of the vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo, at a town hall meeting with women and youths in Lokoja, Kogi State on Friday, Mrs Buhari said Nigerians should trust her husband.
“Nigeria is safe in the hands of my husband because he will not steal Nigeria’s money and he is a very prudent man,” she said.
