First lady Aisha Buhari has appointed Senator Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno, as chairman of the board of trustees of the Future Assured College, Maiduguri.
The college was built by the Aisha Buhari Foundation in Maiduguri to cater for the educational needs of victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
Inaugurating the Shettima-led 11-member governing board of the college at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, Mrs Buhari charged members to shoulder the responsibility with utmost dedication and selflessness.
She said, “I carefully chose you as members of the board to oversee the management of the college. The task is huge, but I believe it is surmountable.
“I, therefore, pray that we all work together to achieve our dream of investing in our children, secure their future and develop the community by serving humanity.’’
She expressed gratitude to the government and people of Borno for their support and cooperation.
Buhari also thanked the TY Danjuma Foundation and other development partners for the support toward the success of the project.
In his acceptance speech, Shettima expressed gratitude to the president’s wife for finding him worthy of the appointment.
He expressed determination to deliver on the mandate by ensuring that the standard of the school is maintained to benefit orphans.
Others appointed into the board are Halima Buhari-Sherrif as secretary, Muhammad Idris, Hadi Uba, Muhammad Albishir, Prof. Bulama Kagu, Prof. Aisha Ahmed, Hon. Asabe Vilita-Bashir, Hajo Sani, Nana Liberty and Hauwa Ngoma.
