First lady Aisha Buhari on Friday welcomed baby Aliyu Abubakar, the first baby of the year 2021, born at 12am at Karu Primary Healthcare Centre, FCT, Abuja.
The baby boy, who weighs 3.3kg, was born into the family of Adamu Abubakar, an indigene of Biu Local Government Area of Borno.
Mrs Buhari was represented by Mairo Almakura, the special assistant to the president on African first lady’s peace mission.
She emphasised the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, saying six months of the process would benefit both mother and child and for babies to acquire the necessary nutrients for healthy growth.
In Lagos, the governor’s wife Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu welcomed the state’s first baby of the year 2021 at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando Lagos.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu presented gifts items to the baby and other babies during her goodwill visits to the hospital.
The baby boy who weighs 4.3kg was born to the family of Onumba at 2:38 am at the hospital.
“We are here today not just to celebrate new lives having it in mind that our show of love, kindness and compassion is only an extension of gratitude to God,” she said.
The governor’s wife also visited Mushin General Hospital, Orile Agege Hospital and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
In Ekiti, the governor’s wife Bisi Fayemi presented baby materials and cash gifts to the first and second babies of the year 2021 in the state.
Mrs Fayemi who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Maryam Ogunlade, presented gifts to parents of the babies at Okeyinmi Health Centre, Ado-Ekiti; and Methodist Health Centre, Ikole-Ekiti, where the two babies were delivered on Friday.
The first baby of the year, a girl, was born around 12:02 a.m. to the Abu Abdul family at the Okeyinmi Health Centre in Ado Ekiti.
The second baby, a boy, was born to the family of Olukole Faluyi at the Methodist Health Centre in Ikole-Ekiti. He weighed 3.4 kg.
In Ebonyi, wife of the governor Rachael Umahi welcomed the state’s first baby of 2021 at the Mile Four Maternity Hospital, Abakaliki, delivered around 12am.
The baby boy, who weighed 3.75kg at birth, was born to the Nwabuchechi family of Ezza-North Local Government Area.
Mrs Umahi, while welcoming the baby, thanked God for the gift of a baby boy and commended the hospital’s management for their commitment and attention to the baby who was incubated.
