First Lady Aisha Buhari has come under attack on social media for begging Kogi State voters to forgive Governor Yahaya Bello.
Mrs Buhari was at the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Lokoja on Thursday alongside party national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State – and others.
At a point in the rally, Governor el-Rufai went on his knees to appeal to voters to forgive their governor for any sins he may have committed against them in his first term.
He said Governor Bello “who is a young governor is, however, bound to make mistakes”.
Taking a cur from el-Rufai, Aisha Buhari also apologised to the people of the state on behalf of Bello.
She urged the people “to forgive and forget.”
”Let me refer back to Kaduna State governor’s speech where he had to kneel and say the people should forgive and forget,” she said.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife begged Kogi people to forgive Bello for not paying civil servants.
Mrs Buhari, who said her visit to the state was her first, also said the state “was unable to pay salaries to civil servants because of the verification exercise that was organised”.
Nigerians on Twitter have, however, accused her of hypocrisy, saying she once claimed her husband’s government had been hijacked by a cabal which did not have the people’s best interest at heart, yet she was supporting a governor who is owing salaries.
