First lady Aisha Buhari on Wednesday posted a photo of her daughter-in-law Zahra who is among her delegation at the United Nations General Assembly.
Mrs Buhari had on Tuesday announced Zahra graduated with first class honours in architectural science. She did not mention the university but it is believed to be one outside the country.
Mrs Buhari and her own daughter Zahra and other members of both families attended the graduation ceremony.
Zahra, daughter of the emir of Bichi Nasiru Ado Bayero, married Buhari’s only son Yusuf in August 2021.
Nigerians criticised the first lady for posting the pictures at a time many Nigerian students have been away from classes for over seven months due to the strike by lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
A tweep @Yusuf_Mazaje1 wrote, “When I said we Northerners are nothing to them but tools for winning elections this is what i mean, Aisha Buhari posted their daughter’s graduation in UK while d children of ordinary citizens are at home, But when elections comes, they will be at d core north soliciting for votes.”
Another tweep @henryshield wrote, “Thousands of students are at home because our school are shut, but 1st Lady Aisha Buhari is sharing pictures of her graduating family member. This isn’t about being insensitive, Aisha has drunk a full dose of the visible madness that has disconnected Asorock from the people.”
Also, @steelwrld1 wrote, “Aisha Buhari has shown us that the 2023 election is not about NORTH vs SOUTH, CHRISTIAN vs MUSLIM, IGBOS vs YORUBAS. It’s about the RICH vs the POOR Northerners are not in school today despite having Buhari from North, but the rich are in school! Northern Christians Peter Obi.”
Another tweep @MercyEgbai wrote, “You are supporting and campaigning for the APC that have kept you at home for 7months. It shows how pathetic and stupid you are. Look at how Aisha Buhari post her daughter graduation while you are at home, looking for whose mandate to stand.”
However, on Wednesday, Mrs Buhari posted a photo of her daughter-in-law on social media, this time with President Muhammadu Buhari.
She said Zahra is part of her delegation at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“Mrs Zahra B. Buhari Part of My delegation at the ongoing #UNGA,” the first lady wrote.
