The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, says he sent his successor, Seyi Makinde, a text message to show solidarity after hearing the news that he tested positive for the coronavirus.
Mr Makinde had revealed on Monday that he tested positive but said he was asymptomatic and would continue to self-isolate.
In a post on Instagram, Mr Ajimobi said he texted Makinde and wished him quick recovery.
“Immediately I heard that my brother, Governor @seyi_amakinde test came back positive, I sent him a text message to express solidarity with him and wish him quick recovery and God’s protection,” he said.
“I also want to appreciate him for his bravery with this revelation. I know with adequate care he will get over it. I wish him a quick recovery,” Ajimobi added.
The governor has appointed Prof Temitope Alonge, a former chief medical director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, as the head of COVID-19 Task Force while he recovers.
