Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has emerged chairman of South West Governors’ Forum.
Mr Akeredolu was on Friday named chairman at a ‘special security meeting’ of governors from the Southwest region at Ondo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
The meeting was attended by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola; and Akeredolu.
The governor set up the meeting to address growing insecurity in the region.
“There’s urgent need to stem the tide of criminal activities and banditry in our region and as leaders, we must be proactive in our approach to addressing the issue,” Akeredolu said.
He also said that a commission known as DAWN had been directed to coordinate the summit aimed at further promoting the region’s developmental agenda.
The commission would also look at modalities that would help fight banditry, kidnapping and insecurity in the zone and also look into the national agenda and response, he said.
Akeredolu also said that a consulting firm, KPMG, had been appointed to review the tenure of the Group Managing Director of Oodua Investment Company, which has all Southwest state governments as shareholders.
