South Africa-based Nigerian filmmaker Akin Omotoso has been chosen to direct a biographical movie about Greek basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The movie will be titled Greek Freak after Antetokounmpo’s nickname.
Akin, 46, in an Instagram post on Thursday, expressed his gratitude to Antetokounpo and the team he would be working with on the project.
“Dreams Are Made Of This! Thank You @giannis_an34 For The Opportunity To Tell Your Beautiful Story,” Akin wrote.
Giannis, 25, was born in Greece to Nigerian parents and plays for the Greek national basketball team.
He currently plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA, winning the MVP awards back-to-back in 2019 and 2020.
Akin has directed movies such as The Ghost and the House of Truth starring Kate Henshaw, Lala Akindoju, Fabian Lojede and Tope Tedela.
His other notable productions include Man on Ground, Vaya and Tell Me Sweet Something.
Greek Freak will centre on the Antetokounmpo family, who united to lift themselves out of a life of poverty as undocumented immigrants living in Greece.
